Before a perimeter security solution can be suggested, we strongly suggest allowing us a visit on the premises, where we will conduct an in depth analysis and staff interview, or we can also document a video walkthrough for an ulterior analysis.

Get an unlocked GSM phone (if you subscribe to AT&T/Cingular or T-Mobile you already have one, just ask them to send you the unlock code). Alternately, you can buy a simple model like the one in the following pictures for $10-$30 on eBay.
Step 3
Walk into any AT&T/Cingular or T-Mobile store, hand over the unlocked phone, and ask that they give it a number on their most affordable "pay as you go" plan. You will walk out with a SIM card inside the phone, and a phone number and air time for that SIM card!
For critical applications you may want to get a subscriber plan and ensure optimum GSM signal strength at the receiving location. Order the 5 meter tape antenna if best signal location and and unit installation location are in different places.
Step 4
Open the manual for the Mobile Activator module you purchased from us and follow the instructions. Some steps common to all modules are as follows: while the SIM is still inside the phone, make sure SIM card is unlocked; you may have to call the carrier. Then delete all numbers from memory and add your number in position 1. This is the administrator's position. It should be the number from which you will call the device. Position 2 is also an administrator on all models, you may enter the same or another number authorized to administer the device.
Step 5
If you use sensor or alarm functions, send 5 text messages from another cell phone to this cell phone, to the SIM you are preparing (for model BR16GM, for other models with more inputs you would send more messages). Message 1 is for sensor connected to input 1, message 2 for input 2 and so on. For example if you plan to have input 1 tell you when the engine is off (GPS vehicle tracking module) you would write "Engine Off" and connect input 1 to the LED behind the "Engine Off" light. If you monitor alarm conditions, message 1 / sensor 1 may say "Motion detected in living room". So you program it to say whatever you want.

Step 6
Insert the SIM into the module, and set the GSM frequency jumper (jumpers are on the other side of the board - not shown here) to the proper frequency used by your carrier.
Step 7 (optional, if needed)
Select and buy your 12 Volt power supply (Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc) depending on whether you will use it in a vehicle (GPS tracker) or fixed location (gate opener, alarm system, pump activator, router rebooter, fluid level monitor, weather station, temperature monitor, etc). In the picture below (left) we have a $5 12V automobile extension cord bought at Wal-Mart, with a built-in fuse to protect the module.
Step 8
Strip and solder the ends of the power supply. Cut off whatever plug type it comes with. Two clean stripped wires can be readily screwed into the board power terminals. Mind your polarity. Watch for red and green LED lights on the module. If nothing lights up, reverse your wires, mark the power cable so in the future you plug it right, and you should be OK.
Step 9
Connect power supply, read the manual and have lots of fun.
SHOWN ABOVE: GPS MODULE WITH DIRECT MOUNT GSM ANTENNA (BOTTOM) AND 4 METER GPS ANTENNA (TOP), AND 12v POWER SUPPLY (MIDDLE BETWEEN THE TWO ANTENNAS).
This is only a machine - it is with your ideas that devices like these can turn into amazing solutions!
